My Story
Hi there! I’m Ashley Harris (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in North Carolina. Before opening my private practice, I spent several years working in community-based mental health, providing outpatient therapy and in-home counseling for youth, families, and adults.
During that time, I had the privilege of supporting individuals navigating complex life challenges. Those experiences deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, accessible mental health care and continue to shape the way I show up as a therapist today.
Growing up, I was often one of the few Black children in my social circles and never quite felt like I fit into a single box. I remember being asked questions like, “What are you mixed with?” and hearing comments such as “You’re not Black enough,” “You talk White,” or “You speak well for a Black person.”
Those experiences left me feeling unseen and unsure of where I belonged. They also sparked a deep curiosity about identity and the ways messages from others shape how we see ourselves.
Coming from a diverse family background, I witnessed firsthand how racial disparities and generational trauma can impact families and communities. As a teenager, I saw my mother survive a life-threatening domestic violence incident and rebuild our lives as a single parent.
Later in life, I survived my own abusive relationship. These experiences deepened my understanding of resilience, healing, and the ways trauma can impact individuals across generations. They ultimately inspired me to become a therapist and create a space where others — especially those from diverse or historically underserved backgrounds — can feel seen, valued, and supported in their healing journey.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, crafting, gardening, birdwatching, spending time outdoors, traveling, and being with family and friends. I also love playing with my dogs and finding small ways to recharge and stay connected to the things that bring me joy.
